Before assuming the worst, run through these checks — sometimes a warm fridge has a surprisingly simple fix.
Check the thermostat setting
It sounds obvious, but a knocked thermostat dial is a common cause. Set it to the recommended mid-range level.
Clean the condenser coils
Dusty coils behind or beneath the fridge can't release heat efficiently, so the fridge struggles to cool. Vacuum them every few months.
Inspect the door seals
Cracked or loose gaskets let cold air escape. Close the door on a sheet of paper — if it slides out easily, the seal needs replacing.
Don't block the vents
Overpacking blocks the internal airflow between the freezer and fridge compartments. Leave space for air to circulate.
Listen for the compressor
If the compressor is silent or clicking on and off, it may be failing — this needs a technician and possibly a gas refill.
Food safety first: if your fridge has been warm for hours, don't risk perishable items.
